# Land-definition data attribution and redistribution

Pinned catalogue `trial-2026-11-02`; prepared 2026-11-02. The source outlines
and mapped water are public geographic data. They contain no private routes.
These data are separate from the application's MIT-licensed program source.

The water-subtracted **land-definition database is made available under the
Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0**. Original boundary and contents notices below
remain applicable; original CC/OGL materials are not relicensed as MIT.

Source release: Overture 2026-10-21.0 base water. Changes: selected regional
polygon surfaces; excluded physical-label geometry; clipped/simplified water;
unioned substantial surfaces; subtracted from boundary outlines; simplified
resulting land. Tiny/unmapped water remains a documented limitation.

**UK and NZ country outlines:** Made with Natural Earth. Original Natural
Earth 5.1.2 countries-with-boundary-lakes-removed data are public domain.

Changes: selected GBR/NZL features, simplified, subtracted mapped water in the
sample city regions. The public-domain status of original outlines does not

## Delivery and offline display

Distribute this notice, the applicable licences and the pinned generated JSON
alongside any delivered public content package. Retained source inputs, exact
hashes and preparation queries are in `sources/`; the transformation is
`mobile/scripts/prepare-areas.py`. If publishing the derivative database or a
produced work, provide recipients access to the derivative database (or the
applicable alteration files) under ODbL as required by its sections 4.4 and 4.6.
The prepared JSON database can be served directly with its notices; do not
publish a personal backup as the geographic-data download.

`licenses/notices.json` contains compact attribution and full offline text for
runtime display. It is data, not an HTML renderer. `licenses/manifest.json`
records retrieved/extracted text hashes and provenance. Full publisher HTML
is retained for OGL3 and CC BY 3.0 NZ. The ODbL text was retrieved from SPDX's
official licence-list mirror after the publisher's download returned HTTP 403;
the canonical licence was separately read. No hosting authorization is implied.
